When you move into a new place, one of your first major tasks is often going out to purchase all of the additional apartment furniture you need. Shopping can be an exhausting process if you do not prepare in advance and keep some basic principles in mind throughout the process.1. Know Your Essentials Most apartments cant fit all of the furniture you might want, so before you head out shopping, make a list of the essential items that you cant live without. Each persons choices of essential apartment furnishings might be a little different because it depends on what you value. For example, some people need a big couch and entertainment center in the main living area, whereas others would rather fill the space with a big dining table and a couple of comfy armchairs for reading.
We get asked a lot about the wood and construction that is used in hotel furniture and how to tell low quality furniture from high quality furniture. In a lot of cases, you get what you pay for but with furniture prices going lower across the board from lower overseas labor rates, sometimes good items are not that much more expensive than lower quality furniture. Here I am going to tell you about low quality furniture and what to check for. We all know of the running joke about some manufacturers and their "easy" at home assembly with the hundreds of screws, boards and dowels and mostly undecipherable directions. These types of items, called RTA or ready to assemble are not built with quality in mind, most of the time, they are used because they are compact and if you are shipping the items in a shipping container you can get a lot of boxes stacked on top of each other. While these items may be suitable for home use, for long term hotel use they typically cannot stand the wear and tear of high volume usage. Over time, a lot of these designs sag, twist and contort and need to be replaced. So your first question to ask is, is the hotel furniture already assembled?
For a small apartment, couple should come up with small but functional furniture. If possible they should chose furniture that can be multi-functional like a sofa bed and a kitchen table that can also be used for study. Chairs should be easy to move and can assume a lot of functions in a small space. Newly-weds and young couples should not rush into buying elegant furniture which may occupy a sizable floor area. These gargantuan furniture pieces can be reserved when they moved in to their dream house. They should also avoid furniture that would require several accessories like a seven or eight seater dining table. Such furniture pieces take a lot of space and can be substituted by a smaller one which can be used for several uses.
I needed as much space as possible, and I liked it all bare and minimal. Any type of furniture was unwelcome in my humble abode, this included door furniture, regular furniture, and decorative furniture. I was like that for almost as long as I could remember, but one day it had to change. I had hooked up with someone and one thing led to another, and the next thing I knew she moved in with me. It was all good except until that very moment she stepped into my apartment and told me how I could live like this, life all bare and boring. I said I liked it this way and it looked clean, and that was the start of our first major fight.
I said, why spend so much for a door knob, it was just a knob. She reminded me of the agreement, and all I had to do was to shut up and go with it. We went to this hardware shop, and there were all sorts of door knobs. They came in different shapes, sizes, and designs, and also in different colors. They were all labeled as door furniture. She was about to pick one that looked like something from a sunken pirate ship, but I intervened when I lied that I saw something I liked and convinced her it would look good with the apartment. This trick has always saved me every time she had the urge to decorate and buy new furniture that would take up all my space.
By spending a little time taking measurements of the spaces you need to buy apartment size furniture for, you can avoid the hassle and frustration of buying apartment furniture that does not fit your space. Once you have your dimensions, enjoy shopping for your apartment and creating a home in which you can relax and enjoy. Designing an apartment to meet your needs and show your sense of style is fun and easy if you know what furniture and sizes to look for, so take out your measuring tape, take your dimensions down and start creating the perfect space for you.
